First appearing in the early twentieth century, architectural reconstruction is increasingly becoming a tool for visual revive a bygone past. This book deals with the phenomenon of a meticulous reconstruction of the architecture. He argues that the policy of reconstruction goes far beyond aesthetic considerations. Taking architecture as the main source of history and regional identity, the impact of large-scale reconstruction is closely intertwined with political and social factors. In addition, memories and associations correlated with the lost buildings of a bygone era to a large extent depends on the re-emergence of what is often contrary to historical events. Reconstruction has become a recognized way to build and deal with the past, but so far there is no comprehensive research on it. By combining the eight case studies from Eastern Europe, France, Spain, China, Japan, Israel and Brazil, it provides valuable information on this topic. Chapter analyzes the political roots of the renovations and to identify the main characters. At the same time, this volume adds to our understanding of the impact of the reconstruction of memory and forgetting, as well as the reconstruction of critical power with respect to contemporary architecture and urbanism.
