In the years preceding the global financial crisis, the European Union (EU) has been recognized as a major player on the world financial management, almost competing with the US in influence. While the US and the EU continue to dominate the installation of financial rules in the post-crisis world, the context in which they do it has changed dramatically. Pre-crisis ideas on the regulation of non-interference were rejected in favor of a more interventionist ones. The G20 and the Financial Stability Board was entrusted with greater coordination of global efforts. At the same time, the jurisdiction reiterated the need "to get its own regulatory house in order" before committing to further global harmonization.
