What should be done with minors who kill, maim, destroy and defile the lives of others? Texas has to deal with some of its most serious and violent juvenile offenders through a "determinate sentencing," the unique sentencing structure that mixes the parts of the justice system for juveniles and adults. Once delivered its verdict in a determinate sentencing, criminals first imprisoned in Texas Youth Commission (TYC). When they approach the age of eighteen, they are either transferred to the Texas prison system to serve the remainder of his original proposal deterministic or released from TYC in Texas communities.

The first long-term study of determinate sentencing in Texas, Lost Causes examines the social and delinquent history, institutionalization of experience, as well as the issue and the results of relapse more than 3,000 criminals serious and violent juvenile who received such sentences in the period from 1987 to 2011. The authors are seeking to understand the process, results and implications of deterministic conviction which gave a serious and violent crimes against minors have another chance to redeem himself, or to solidify its place as the next generation of adult prisoners in Texas.
