Although much has been written about the Jacobites, most of the work, as a rule, look at the uprisings in 1745, and no earlier attempts to restore the Stuart dynasty. Thus, this book provides a welcome focus on the events in 1715, when the Jacobites in England and Scotland were trying to oust George I and replace him with James Stewart. In particular, it provides a detailed account and analysis of the campaign in the lowlands of Scotland and the north of England, which led to the decisive Battle of Preston and ended the immediate prospects for the Jacobite cause. Drawing on a wealth of underutilized sources, work is based on existing studies in the period to give the community the weight and the individual aspects of the crisis, as well as the military.
