As we passed from the city center on the outskirts of Fukushima I looked at the landscape for surgical face masks. I would like to see how many people were wearing such masks, and calculate in what ratio. I was trying to decide, consciously or unconsciously, what people do in response. All showed bright and quiet. What I was hoping for exactly? Guilty conscience again. But then it was time for school to start. We began to see a group of children on their way to school. After this catastrophic event, the nature of Hideo Furukawa travels back to his home childhood near Fukushima to assess the damage and restore the connection to the place that is now doubly alien. His journey brings the legendary history of the region, in particular soma nomaoi military exercises, which were seized and offered Shinto shrine of wild horses. Standing in the crisp morning light, these horses also tell their stories, reinforcing the sense of liberation, of chaos and loss that accompanies Furukawa # 8217; s hard reset.
